Porsche 1949 Gmund coupe spotted at “Irvine coffee & cars”!

Every week new exotic cars show up at the local “cars & coffee” event.  Well this week was no different at this Southern California show.  We were very pleased to see this ultra rare Porsche 356 show up.  This 356 coupe was one of only a few that were hand built in Gmund Austria and is considered a significant survivor.  This automotive era was a magical time period representing the beginnings for Porsche. These significant early Porsche’s were the launching pad in the making of what is considered the greatest sports car manufacturer in the world.

It is nice to know that style still exists and is available at Vintage Replicar……When this 1949 coupe was hammered out and built by yesterday’s automotive artisans in Austria and Germany, the workers were not yet aware that Dr. Porsche’s model “356″ would become the standard for 7 generations of sports-car lovers

These artisans of old were building a dream in 1949…..they had no idea what would become of it….but they knew even then, It Was Special! It still is Today.

Personally, I like the convertible & the 1954 Super Speedster that followed, but I always liked “ragtops”

In 2012, the only place in the World one can acquire an accurate “tribute” to the absolute original 356 is Vintage Replicar. Nope, you won’t find any modern electronics, transistors, printed circuit boards, but you will find the precision workmanship and modern manufacturing techniques that just weren’t available in 1949. You will also find the mid-engine design that no other manufacturer offers.
